Authorship and Contributorship

The Journal of Sustainability Science and Development (JSSD) upholds the principles of transparency and best practices in scholarly publishing as outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). This policy ensures precise and accurate attribution of authorship and contributorship for all published works. As an open-access journal operating under the CC-BY-NC-SA license, authors retain the copyright of their articles while granting broad permissions for distribution and reuse. The journal fully adheres to the Core Practices established by COPE to ensure integrity and ethical publishing standards.

Criteria for Authorship

Authorship of a scholarly article in the Journal of Sustainability Science and Development (JSSD) is granted to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. To qualify as an author, individuals must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contributions: Authors must make significant contributions to the intellectual content of the article, including the conception or design of the study, data acquisition, analysis, interpretation, and drafting or revising the manuscript for important intellectual content.
  2. Approval of Final Version: All authors are required to approve the final version of the article and agree to take full responsibility for its content.
  3. Accountability: Authors must be able to explain and defend the research findings in public forums if necessary.

Contributorship Statement

JSSD may request a contributorship statement to be submitted with the manuscript to promote transparency and avoid misunderstandings. This statement should clearly outline the contributions of each author to the research, specifying their individual roles. While this statement will not be published, it must accurately reflect the contributions of each author involved in the study.

Dispute Resolution

In the event of disagreements or disputes regarding authorship, the editorial board of JSSD will follow a structured process to investigate and resolve the issue. The concerned parties will be required to provide evidence of their contributions to the research. JSSD may also consult the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) or other relevant organizations to ensure a fair and unbiased resolution. However, JSSD will not get involved in or be held liable for personal disputes between authors.

Changes in Authorship

Requests to add, delete, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission to JSSD will be considered only under exceptional circumstances. Such requests must be accompanied by a written explanation from all authors involved, providing a detailed account of the reasons for the change. The editorial board of JSSD will thoroughly evaluate the request and may seek guidance from the journal's advisors or consult COPE's guidelines if necessary.

Honorary and Ghost Authorship

Honorary authorship (gift authorship) and ghost authorship (uncredited contributions) are not acceptable practices in the Journal of Sustainability Science and Development (JSSD). Any individual who has made only minor contributions to the research or article should be appropriately acknowledged in the acknowledgment section, but not listed as an author. JSSD is committed to actively preventing and addressing cases of honorary and ghost authorship to maintain the integrity of the authorship process.

Declaration of Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation of their research when submitting to JSSD. Conflicts of interest may include financial interests, affiliations, or personal relationships that could compromise the impartiality and credibility of the work. JSSD encourages full transparency in these disclosures to ensure the integrity and credibility of the research process.

Compliance with Ethical Guidelines

This includes obtaining the necessary permissions for the use of copyrighted materials, securing informed consent from human subjects, and ensuring the ethical treatment of animals in research. These actions are essential to uphold the ethical standards and integrity of the research published in JSSD.

Review of Authorship Policy

The authorship policy of the Journal of Sustainability Science and Development (JSSD) will be periodically reviewed and updated as needed to align with evolving practices in scholarly publishing and the recommendations of relevant organizations. Any revisions to this policy will be communicated to authors and made publicly available on the JSSD website.
